Well done Team GB!

The Olympics certainly caught everyone’s attention this month and we’ve been getting into the spirit at Silicone Engineering by supporting Team GB. With 65 medals won in total, it is unsurprising that Team GB finished third in the medals table, making our nation proud!

This year’s Olympics saw over 150 countries compete in the games, a number which Silicone Engineering can also relate to. As midyear approaches us, the team at Silicone Engineering has won 150 new accounts so far, which is expected to double by 2013.

Team GB got off to a rocky start but their number three position on the medal table demonstrates that the positive spirits, dedication and hard work have paid off.

Graham Peters, Head of International Sales and Emerging Markets at Silicone Engineering, has recently been travelling with Silicone Engineering as part of the company’s continuous work to maintain and build lasting customer relationships.

Despite his busy schedule, Graham was one of the lucky few that watched the heptathlon at the Olympic Stadium, which included the long jump, sprinting and the 10,000 meters.

After watching Team GB walk away with three gold medals in less than an hour he told us ‘it was a truly unforgettable experience.’

With the firm growing at a rapid pace, Silicone Engineering makes it a priority to travel all over the world to visit new and existing customers.

Another member of the staff that has been travelling is Antony Peel, Director of Marketing, who recently flew to Seattle, Washington, to visit giant aerospace manufacturer, Boeing, for the second time.

Antony said: “We were invited to attend Boeing’s Seal Bidder Conference to supply parts on their new 787 programme, which was followed by a tour of their facilities. This was very impressive.”

Our motto at Silicone Engineering is to keep on going and to not give up. So just like Team GB, we are resilient in reaching our goals!

It’s a knockout for Silicone Engineering!

Silicone Engineering took on the Knockout Challenge over the weekend, helping to raise £100 for the Rossendale Hospice.

Purchase Ledger Administrator, Andy Rosthorn, and his team attempted to conquer an energy-sapping inflatable course while dressed as songbirds and fairytale giants.

The event consisted of nine teams, ten people strong, each competing in six fantastic games over a two-hour period. Participants were left soaking wet but had fun. The team embraced a wet and slippery trail, enjoying a bundle of laughter along the way.

The Knockout Challenge was organised to raise money for the Rossendale Hospice, a registered charity based in Rawtenstall, Lancashire. The Hospice was formed to provide free, holistic, palliative care for people diagnosed with cancer and other specific degenerative diseases.

It was a close call but Andy’s team managed to win five gold medal challenges and came second in the last game, leaving them in the lead.

Andy added: “Somebody had better tell Mo Farah to watch out. There’s a running Budgie on the scene!”

We’re not too sure about how a budgie would have looked competing alongside Mo Farah in the Olympics but we would like to congratulate all the teams who took part in the race and helped raise monies for the Rossendale Hospice.

Silicone Engineering is always happy to help!

Artwork sponsored by Silicone Engineering displayed at the Saatchi Gallery

A former Silicone Engineering employee has been shortlisted to have her artwork displayed at the New Sensations exhibition in London.

Natasha Peel created her masterpiece using plastic materials, which were then moulded in a special oven at Silicone Engineering.

Natasha, who recently completed her BA Hons degree from Oxford University in Drawing & Fine Art, worked at Silicone Engineering during her studies, helping in departments such as Research and Sales.

Steve Maxwell, Innovation Engineer at Silicone Engineering, who assisted Natasha with her artwork, said: “Creativity is thinking up new things and innovation is doing new things. Natasha has achieved both with this wonderful creation.

“With over 800 entries this year, it is an incredible achievement for Natasha to have made the top 20 shortlist.”

The New Sensations exhibition takes place from the 9 – 15 October 2012 at Location House, in London.

The competition aims to promote young, emerging artists and gives their artwork recognition throughout the UK and abroad.

Natasha has a special interest in the malleability of materials when heated, so she viewed Silicone Engineering as the perfect business to sponsor her artwork.

She said: “Whilst working at Silicone Engineering as part of my training, I learnt about the different ways that silicone had been used to mould into place using heated ovens. This inspired me to create something unique for my final project within my degree.

“I am very grateful to Silicone Engineering because not only did they help me with my project but they also assisted in making sure that my artwork reached its destination safely.”

But the journey does not end here for Natasha. She has been offered a place to go onto study her Masters in the History of Art, at London’s Courtauld Institute of Art.

Silicone Engineering was happy to be a part of this exciting opportunity, wishing Natasha the very best with all her future artwork.
